CHOICE Showcases Its Shrink Your Food Waste App at the XX International Tool Fair in Poland

On 19–23 October 2026, CHOICE was represented at the XX International Tool Fair – “GREEN FUTURE: Tools for Sustainable Transformation,” held in Sopot, Poland. The event brought together educators, youth workers, trainers and project representatives from across Europe and beyond to explore innovative educational tools and approaches that support sustainable transformation.

Representing CHOICE, Dr Ilias Karachalios from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) participated in the event, introducing the project’s Shrink Your Food Waste app and highlighting how digital innovation can support sustainable food consumption and encourage environmentally responsible everyday choices.

Exploring Innovative Tools for a Greener Future

The International Tool Fair is a cross-sectoral event within the Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps community, bringing together professionals from youth work, school education, higher education, adult education, sports and vocational education and training.

Under the theme “GREEN FUTURE: Tools for Sustainable Transformation,” the 20th edition focused on the role of education and innovative learning tools in promoting environmental awareness and sustainable development.

Through interactive activities, knowledge exchange and networking opportunities, the event provided a platform for participants to discover practical approaches to sustainability education and explore how these can be adapted to different learning environments and communities.

Introducing CHOICE's Shrink Your Food Waste App

During the event’s Tool Market, Dr Karachalios presented the Shrink Your Food Waste app, one of the digital solutions developed within the CHOICE project to encourage more sustainable food-related behaviours.

The application aims to support individuals in reducing household food waste by helping them better manage their food supplies, monitor expiry dates and make more informed consumption decisions.

By combining practical information with engaging digital features, the app seeks to raise awareness about food waste and encourage small but meaningful changes in everyday habits.

The presentation highlighted how accessible digital tools can help translate sustainability knowledge into practical action, supporting the broader CHOICE objective of empowering citizens to adopt climate-conscious behaviours.

Connecting Digital Innovation with Sustainable Behaviour

CHOICE’s participation in the International Tool Fair reflected the project’s commitment to making scientific knowledge and innovative technologies accessible to wider audiences.

Food waste is a significant environmental challenge, contributing to unnecessary resource consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Supporting individuals in understanding and reducing their food waste is therefore an important step towards more sustainable food systems.

Through solutions such as the Shrink Your Food Waste app, CHOICE explores how digital technologies, behavioural insights and targeted communication can help individuals make informed decisions and adopt more sustainable lifestyles.

By presenting the application to an international audience of educators and youth workers, the project contributed to the exchange of innovative approaches that connect sustainability education with everyday climate action.
