On November 5, 2024, Jan Steinhauser from the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IISAS), a key partner in the CHOICE project, was featured on Moment – Nachhaltig Leben, an Austrian radio program focused on sustainable living, broadcast by ORF Ö1 radio, Austria’s National Broadcaster. In the interview, Steinhauser discussed the unique potential of educational games to raise awareness about environmental issues and inspire real-world action.

As the developer behind CHOICE’s “Climate Survivors” game, Steinhauser shared insights into how the game educates players on sustainable practices. Designed as an engaging “bullet heaven” game, Climate Survivors challenges players to survive escalating climate hazards by making choices that impact their in-game carbon footprint. Through interactive storytelling, players learn about the effects of climate change and explore solutions, from renewable energy to sustainable food practices. This immersive approach fosters empathy and highlights the importance of sustainable lifestyle choices, aligning with CHOICE’s mission to encourage climate-positive behavior change.

In the interview, Steinhauser emphasized the role of Climate Survivors in demonstrating effective, practical actions, such as adopting sustainable food practices, which players can apply in their daily lives.
