Celebrating Innovation and Sustainability at the Launch Event for the “Olivares con Futuro” Campaigns

On October 15, 2025, the Spanish pilot of the EU-funded Climate CHOICE project proudly hosted its open promotional event at the VI Campus de Jóvenes Cooperativistas de Andalucía in Jerez. This marked the official launch of the campaign “Olivares con Futuro: More Efficient, Intelligent Olive Groves”, aimed at transforming olive farming practices in Andalusia towards greater sustainability and profitability.

A Milestone Event for Sustainable Agriculture

The event, organized by Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de Andalucía and BIOAZUL, brought together stakeholders from various sectors of the agricultural and environmental communities. Held at the Espacio Agrotecnológico on the Jerez campus, it showcased the potential of precision agriculture in revolutionising the olive-growing sector.

The spotlight was on the first video of the Olivares con Futuro campaign, which introduced the key message of blending innovation with sustainability. The video featured local olive growers who have embraced cutting-edge technologies in precision farming. These innovations are not only helping farmers increase productivity but also contribute to environmental conservation, making their operations more resilient in the face of climate change.

Farmers, agricultural experts, and local stakeholders gathered for discussions and presentations about the economic and environmental benefits of adopting digital technologies in farming. The event served as a platform to engage the olive farming community and foster knowledge-sharing on sustainable practices.

Showcasing the Campaigns

Following the event, the Olivares con Futuro campaign officially kicked off, focusing on three key areas: precision agriculture, crop monitoring, and data-driven farm management. Throughout the series of campaigns, farmers will be introduced to innovative agricultural practices that increase efficiency, reduce costs, and boost yields—all while prioritising sustainability.

Campaign 1: Precision Agriculture and Crop Monitoring

The first campaign revolves around the use of precision agriculture tools and crop monitoring systems, which include drones, sensors, and smart irrigation. By adopting these technologies, olive farmers can optimise water and fertiliser usage, resulting in significant cost savings and improved yields. This campaign underscores the importance of data-driven decision-making, highlighting how digital tools can make farming more efficient and profitable.

The focus is not just on the technology itself but on the real-world benefits for farmers. Through a video series, farmers will share their firsthand experiences and the positive impacts these innovations have had on their operations.

Campaign 2: Ground Cover and Genetic Improvement

Building on the first campaign, the second focuses on ground cover techniques and the introduction of genetically improved olive varieties. These practices aim to further enhance the sustainability and resilience of olive groves, ensuring long-term profitability for farmers. The goal is to demonstrate how even small changes can have a significant impact on both environmental outcomes and financial returns.

Campaign 3: Long-Term Economic Resilience

The third and final campaign will dive deeper into the long-term economic resilience that these innovations bring to olive groves. By sharing success stories and lessons learned from early adopters, the campaign will highlight how embracing digital agriculture ensures the viability and competitiveness of Andalusian olive farming in the global market.

Looking Ahead: A Collaborative Vision for the Future

The Olivares con Futuro (Olive Groves of the Future) campaign aims to guide Andalusian olive growers through the transition to more sustainable and profitable farming practices. The campaign demonstrates that innovation and sustainability can coexist, showcasing the potential for smarter, more efficient olive groves. Through this initiative, farmers are introduced to precision agriculture and crop monitoring technologies that optimize resource use, reduce costs, and increase productivity. The focus is on integrating data-driven farm management systems to enhance both the sustainability and economic resilience of olive farming in the region.

The event in Jerez was just the beginning of an ongoing journey marking the launch of the 1st campaign. As the campaign progresses, farmers will have access to more resources, including practical demonstrations, seminars, and online materials to support the adoption of these innovative practices.

For those interested in joining the movement and learning more about how these technologies can transform olive farming, the Olivares con Futuro campaign will continue to share updates and success stories through various channels.
