CHOICE IAMs Webinar: Discover FELiX and the FABLE Calculator ISE
Understanding how food systems may evolve in the coming decades is essential for addressing climate change, biodiversity loss, and food security challenges. Integrated Assessment Models (IAMs) play a crucial role in exploring these complex interactions, helping researchers and policymakers examine how different choices and developments might shape future outcomes.
However, these models are often complex and difficult to access for non-specialist audiences. The CHOICE project is working to bridge this gap by developing digital tools that make IAMs more accessible, interactive, and useful for a wider community.
To showcase these tools, the CHOICE consortium is organising an online webinar on 23 March, where participants will be introduced to two interactive simulation environments developed within the project: FELiX ISE and FABLE Calculator ISE.
Making Climate–Food Modelling More Accessible
CHOICE focuses on integrating behavioural change and real-world decision dynamics into climate mitigation modelling for the food, agriculture, and land-use sectors. As part of this effort, the project has developed interactive online environments that allow users to explore modelling scenarios in a more intuitive and engaging way.
These tools enable users to interact with model-based scenarios and better understand how food system choices, policies, and behavioural changes may influence climate and sustainability outcomes.
During the webinar, participants will have the opportunity to see how these environments work and learn how they can support climate research, policy exploration, and evidence-based decision-making across the food chain.
Webinar Agenda
13:30 – 14:30 CET | Introduction & FELiX IAM Simulator,
Speakers: Sibel Eker and Ryan Yi Wie Tan (IIASA)
This session will introduce the FELiX Interactive Simulation Environment (ISE) and demonstrate how it enables users to explore Integrated Assessment Model scenarios related to the food sector.
Participants will learn how the FELiX simulator allows users to experiment with different assumptions and behavioural scenarios and observe how these changes may influence climate, land use, and food system outcomes.
14:30 – 14:45 CET | Break
14:45 – 15:45 CET | FABLE Calculator ISE, Speaker: Clara Douzal (SDSN)
The second session will present the FABLE Calculator Interactive Simulation Environment, demonstrating how the FABLE Calculator can be used to explore food and land-use pathways and examine the implications of different scenarios for sustainability.
15:45 – 16:30 CET | Evaluation & Discussion
The webinar will conclude with an interactive evaluation and discussion session.
