CHOICE Connects with Andalusian Cooperatives at CAAND Technical Convention
On June 5–6, CHOICE took part in the CAAND Technical Convention, hosted at DCOOP’s facilities in Antequera, Málaga. Organised by Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de Andalucía, the event brought together over 350 attendees -primarily cooperative members and technical experts from across Andalusia’s agri-food sector.
As part of the exhibition space, CHOICE presented a poster introducing the project’s overarching mission: to embed behavioural change and actor diversity into climate mitigation strategies by enhancing Integrated Assessment Models (IAMs) and embedding them into the lifestyle choices of both consumers and producers. But the most valuable part of the event unfolded beyond the poster -through rich, informal conversations with cooperative members.
These exchanges focused on the Spanish pilot activities and offered a unique opportunity to listen directly to the perspectives of those working in olive groves and livestock systems. Attendees shared views on farming practices and issues like water use, animal welfare, emissions, and economic pressures, providing the CHOICE team with essential context for shaping future campaign strategies.
Events like this reinforce CHOICE’s commitment to grounding scientific models in local knowledge, ensuring that proposed pathways for climate action reflect the lived realities and priorities of farming communities.

What’s next?
The convention offered a valuable opportunity to further discuss the focus of the Spanish pilot and gather insights that will contribute to the upcoming awareness and engagement campaigns in Andalusia. These efforts aim to support cooperative members in adopting practical and climate-smart practices, aligned with local agricultural realities.
