CHOICE game “Climate Survivors” shines at popular Austrian Events

To amplify awareness and drive community engagement, the CHOICE project gained prominence at two of Austria’s premier events. The International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) team led the demonstrations of “Climate Survivors” game showcasing its innovative approach to climate engagement, captivating diverse audiences and spreading the project’s impactful message towards climate change mitigation in the food sector.

"Speak Out" Festival

The journey began at the "Speak Out" Festival on June 11, 2024, dedicated to sustainability and innovation. This event provided the perfect platform to highlight the educational potential of "Climate Survivors." The festival, focusing on the six Rs of sustainability—RETHINK, REFUSE, REDUCE, REUSE, REPAIR, and RECYCLE—featured a variety of interactive workshops, talks, and activities. The "Climate Survivors" demonstrations during the event underscored the game’s potential to inspire climate action through engaging gameplay, leaving a lasting impression on festival attendees.

Austrian eSports Festival

Following the successful engagement at the Speak out festival the Austrian eSports Festival, held on June 15 and 16, 2024, provided an excellent platform for showcasing “Climate Survivors” game. This highly impactful event, which gathered over 20,000 visitors in just two days, was bustling with energy and enthusiasm. During the event the IIASA team demonstrated the current prototype of the game, collected feedback from diverse audiences, and advertised the game’s upcoming first demo release.

Through these events, the CHOICE project effectively engaged a wide and varied audience, showcasing how gaming can be a powerful medium for climate communication and public engagement. The feedback gained from attendees at both events highlighted the game’s potential to educate and engage. This valuable input will guide the refinement of the game before the official demo release. The events also helped build a community of climate-conscious gamers eager to support and promote climate action in the food chain, while networking with game developers, like-minded experts, and the public to promote CHOICE activities.
